Still, it’s got a mighty fast pace to it that I generally just can’t follow in other titles. The game is actually more of a twin-stick shooter, with the crazier bullet hell portions saved mostly for boss stages and the more difficult levels later in the game. It was curious then, that Assault Android Cactus caught my attention so quickly and thoroughly. However, if you’re willing to test out this fun and exciting game despite the knowledge that it’s still incomplete, you’ll definitely get your fair share of enjoyment. There are only a few levels available in the game, which creates a short playthrough and leaves plot holes unanswered. Since the game is an independent project from a single developer, there’s still a short list of content for you to play. This adds to the visual quality of the game, plus it also gives you a sense of how the enemies vary–from those slightly smaller than Mitch to those as large as a building. The third-person view makes your character appear small most times, emphasizing the environment. In terms of stage design, the game manages to create a grandiose feel by creating huge stages. These enemies are well-designed and are not repetitive, adding excitement to the game. Levels are mostly platformer challenges which conclude with a boss fight. The game makes up for it with some sick attacks and combos that are impressively animated. Its main character, Mitch Metello, wields a stop sign as a weapon.
